What Surface Finishes are Available for China Stainless Steel Sheet Fabrication?
Surface finish affects corrosion performance, cleanability, and appearance. The right spec depends on your end application.
- 2B finish: The standard cold-rolled, matte finish for general fabrication and industrial parts. It’s the base condition for most stainless sheets we receive from the mill and the starting point for further finishing.
- Brushed / hairline finish: A directional satin finish produced by abrasive belts. Common on enclosures, architectural panels, and consumer-facing equipment where a clean appearance matters without the cost of mirror polishing.
- Mirror / polished finish: A high-reflectivity surface achieved through progressive polishing steps up to 8K or 10K. Used in pharmaceutical equipment, food processing, and decorative applications. Specifying the correct grit sequence upfront avoids rework.
- Passivation: A chemical treatment that removes free iron and restores the natural chromium oxide passive layer. Required for medical devices and food-contact components to meet hygiene standards.
- Electro-polishing: An electrochemical process that removes a thin surface layer to improve corrosion resistance and achieve lower surface roughness than mechanical polishing alone. Common in pharmaceutical and semiconductor applications.
- Bead blasting: Produces a uniform matte texture that reduces glare and improves paint or powder coat adhesion for parts that go through a secondary coating step.
Different industries have different tolerance requirements, surface standards, and certification expectations. We’ve built specific process experience in each of these sectors, not just general sheet metal capability.
Aerospace
We supply structural brackets, housings, and enclosure panels with full Coordinate Measuring Machine inspection reports and mill test certificates on every order. If your drawing calls for tight positional tolerances and traceable material certification, that’s how every aerospace job ships from our facility.
Automotive
Batch-to-batch consistency is what automotive programs actually require. We fabricate battery enclosures, exhaust components, and structural reinforcements for prototype builds through low- to mid-volume production. Our quality system is ISO 9001 certified, and we maintain IATF 16949 compliance for automotive work. OEM clients rely on our fabricated components in active production.
